The Big Island Bar-B-Que is a KCBS sanctioned State Championship. We draw some of the top teams in the United States that are a part of Kansas City Barbeque Society to compete annually in Albert Lea Minnesota. The winner of the Big Island Bar-B-Que receives a cash payout as well as an invitation to the American Royal/KC Masterpiece Invitational in Kansas City MO. Overall Brisket winner qualifies for 2012 Chest to Chest World Brisket Championship in Great Bend, Kansas; Overall winner is in a drawing to represent Minnesota at the World Jack Daniels Championship in 2012

The Big Island Bar-B-Que Spring Invitational is a much more intimate and informal non-sanctioned event that creates a learning environment for both cooks and judges alike. We welcome interaction between teams and judges, open the entire process from beginning to end to both sides and have fun in the process. No cash is at stake for teams, just a few bragging rights, so look for more information on this new format here, as well as for an article in the KCBS Bullsheet this summer.
